The sum of two consecutive even integers is seventy two

The sum of two consecutive even integers is seventy two

Serena N.

No solution...  The answer is not an integer.  It would have to be "3 consecutive even integers" to arrive at 72, or "2 consecutive even integers to = 70" (for instance)... ==>  34 + 36 = 70 < 72 but 36 + 38 = 74 > 72
:: nothing in the middle...  See "Solution" below...

Andrew M.

As noted already, this has no solution.
If the problem was the sum of two consecutive odd
integers equals 72 then:  35 + 37 = 72

It is 2n that needs to be an integer, along with 2n + 2.  Both are integers, but both are also odd (2n = 35), so there is no even solution, although 2n and 2n +2 are both integers.
