If 3/4x+y=1, then what does x equal in terms of y?

What is in the denominator of the fraction? Is it 3/4 times x, 3 over 4x, or 3 over (4x + y)?

In problems like this, you have to use algebra to solve for x.
 
(3/4)x + y = 1
 
Subtract y from both sides and get
 
(3/4)x = 1 - y
 
Multiply both sides by 4/3 and get
 
x = (4/3)(1 - y)
 
There you have x in terms of y.
