I need some serious help! Without it, I cannot become a pokemon master!

1. You are not clueless.  You have written the correct system of equations.

4x + 7y=11.75

12x+5y=15.25

 

Multiply the first equation by 3 to get

12x+21y=35.25

12x+  5y=15.25 subtract the second to get

16y=20 or y=1.25 substitute into the first equation to get

4x+8.75=11.75

4x=3

x=.75

The results are accurate but ever so slightly unreal.

Hi PJ,

        I think the question is what is the selling price of a case of paper and a box of pencils? 

If you solve the 2 equations for x and y you will get x=.75 and y=1.25 so a case of paper sell for $.75 and a box of pencils sells for $1.25.
