The distributive property is simply a way of stating to combine all terms. For the example you posted you would take -4 and divide it into all the compnonets in the parenthesis. So you would do
-4*7=-28
-4*x=-4x
as a result your answer could be written in two ways -28-4x or -4x-28

I apologize but there is one error you would multiply not divide. I am sorry for any confusion hopefully the examples i set were helpful. Again i apolkogize for the error.
