Hi John,
Let the width be x meters. Then, the length will be (2x - 3) meters.
x(2x - 3) = 27
2x^2 - 3x = 27
2x^2 - 3x - 27 = 0
(2x - 9)(x + 3) = 0
x + 3 = 0 will not work since we get x = -3. It can't be a dimension.
2x - 9 - 0
2x = 9
x = 4.5 m (this is the width)
length = 2*4.5 - 3
= 6 m
