The question you are asking is a bit unclear but I might be able to offer some insight.
2(l + w) is sometimes used as the formula for the perimeter of a rectangle.
If l represents the length and w represents the width, then the perimeter (sum of the sides) is l + w + l + w.
This simplifies algebraically as 2l + 2w and can be factored into 2(l + w).
So, to find the perimeter of the rectangle you must double the sum of the length and width.
