You need to use parentheses around the argument in the radical. Assuming you meant
2 √(6a + 7) - 2a = 0,
then
√(6a + 7) = a
6a + 7 = a2
a2 - 6a - 7 = 0
(a - 7)(a + 1) = 0
a = 7 or -1
Now test both solutions, and see that only a = 7 satisfies the original equation.
