Determine whether f(x) = −5x + 1  /8  and g(x) = 8x + 1  /5 are inverse of each other.

They are if f(g(x)) = x, so do this.  But I must insist that the student shall properly parenthesize each function's righthand side, if the denominators 8 and 5, respectively, are intended to pertain to expressions (-5x+1) and (8x+1).
