Lim x approaches 1 [(e^x - e) / (x - 1)]

Can someone please algebraicly explain to me why the answer to this is "e"? Without L'hospital please.

Thank you.

So this is the only way to solve this, and there is no way I can manipulate the expression so that I get a simple "e" as answer? Thank you

Thank you. Unfortunately I cannot use the l'Hopital rule. I can only manipulate the whole equation to get the answer and not 0/0, but I don't know how. Can you please help me with this?

Well, it's not an equation to manipulate (it's an expression).
I don't see any way to do it without M. l'Hôpital.
