Find the area above the curve of y=-e^x-1 from -1 to 1.

I assume you want the area bounded by that curve, the x axis, and the lines x=-1 and x=1.  Then the area is:

 

 

(integral from -1 to +1)  (-e^-xdx)  = -e^-x evaluated at -1 and +1

 

this is equal to -(e^-1 - e)  = e - 1/e
