y = 7x + 8
y = x + 20
7x + 8 = x + 20 transitive of equality
6x + 8 = 20 subtract x from both sides
6x = 12 subtract 8 from both sides
x = 2 divide both sides by 6

Juan, the two equations are linear equations (that is, they are two lines). To "solve" means to find the (x,y) value that satisfies both equations (that is, the point where the lines intersect). x=2, and be sure to solve for y in order to put the answer into (2,?) format (that is, an ordered pair).
