Assume your sample contained 1000 liters of water and the volume of Meadow Lake is 125,000,000 liters. How many blue fish would you find in the whole lake if you found 7 in your sample?

In 1000L water sample, there are 7 blue fish.

Let's double the size of the water sample, then the number of fish is going to be double too

In the whole lake 125M liters, there would be :

 

125000000/1000 times 7 = 875000 fish
