Let number = x
quotient of a number and -5=> (x ÷ -5)
17 is subtracted from the quotient of a number and -5 =>(x ÷ -5)-17
The result is -11 => (x ÷ -5)-17=-11
now solve the equation
(x ÷ -5)-17 =-11
(x/-5 ) - 17 =-11
add 17 to both sides
(x/-5 )=6
multiply with -5 to both sides
x= -30
Check
-30 ÷ -5 =+6
and
6-17=-11
