College algebra word problem

Question

A monk crossbred plants, which can have purple or white flowers, and obtained 625 plants with white flowers and 272 plants with purple flowers. Find the empirical probability that a plant had each type of flower.

The total number of trials = 625 + 272 = 897

 

P(white) = 625/897 = 69.7%

P(purple) = 272/897 = 30.3%

 

  Note: Probability may be expressed in % (total 100%) or as a decimal (total 1.0).

  Also note:  The "or" in the problem is the Exclusive OR -- one or the other, but not both
