Below are algebraic expressions that have been INCORRECTLY simplified. Explain what the misconception was and then provide the correct simplification.

1. b2 * b= b10


2. 42 * 43= 142+3 = 145


3. (x6)3 = x6+3 = X9


4. (5X)2 = 5X2


5. (a9/a3) = a9/3 =a3


6. (45/23) = 25-3 =22



And, drum roll please. The biggest algebraic mistake of all time…


7. (a+b)2 = a2+b2

Thank you Adam! But I am having a hard time understanding number 6. I know that when dividing you subtract the exponents, but wouldn't you divide the base?
