The frame can be considered a rectangle because the length L is higher than the width.

 

The formulae of the perimeter of a rectangle is: 2L + 2W where L is the length and W is the width.

 

Because this perimeter is 52, we have:

 

2L + 2W = 52

 

Buth we have other additional piece of information: L = 3W (the length is 3 times greater than the width).

 Finally, our expression is:

 

2(3W) + 2W = 52      or,  8W = 52      Then, the width is: 6.5 inches

 

Because L = 3W  = 3(6.5) = 19.5 inches
