A man's age today is 2 years more than three times the age his son will be 5 years from now. Let a represent the son's age today. Write and expression to represent the man's age today. Then find his age if his son is now 8 years old

If a = son's age today,  then son's age 5 years from now will be  (a + 5).

 

 

Man's age today = 3(a + 5) + 2

 

Man's age today = 3a + 17

m - 2 = 3(a + 5)

 

son is now 8 years old

 a = 8 years old

 

m - 2 = 3(8 + 5)

m = 39 + 2

m = 41
