Kimberly:  in the first term, do you mean tht it's four divided by (3v²)?  If so, parentheses grouping the ENTIRE DENOMINATOR are required when you present the expression on one line--you must understand that the order-of-operations rules would, as written, direct us to compute four thirds of (v²), and there's a BIG difference.

You replied: Yes, I do mean (3v^2), so now I work as follows:

a.  simplify 2/6 to 1/3

b.  choose common denominator 3v²

c.  4/(3v²) - 1/3 = 4/(3v²) - v²/3v²) = [4 - v²]/(3v²) = (2-v)(2+v)/(3v²)
