Thank you Mark this helped a lot. I have to work in my long division for sure. I'm still confused as to where you got the +7 on top from? Also when the +5x has -9x subtracted from it do you not out -4 under it? Thank you for your time!

You are welcome. Time spent with a learner is time well spent.
The 7 is the quotient of 14x / 2x.
The -9 is, as you say, subtracted, so 5x - (-9x) = 5x + 9x.
