Distance, rate ,time

You and a friend both live the same distance from a coffee shop. You walk at a rate that is one Mike an hour faster than your friend. If your friend leaves his house at 6:30 am and you leave your house at 7:00 am, you and he will both arrive at the coffee shop at 9:00am. How fast do each of you walk? How far did each of you walk?

So jus multiply the 4 times the 2.5 hours? So 10 mph is how fast and 4 miles is how far?

What does "r" represent?
What does "r + 1" represent?
Knowing rate and time, how do you determine distance?
