Yes i've tried 3x. The answer I got was 0 each time. Which doesn't seem right to me.

Did you get -

(6x+4) = (4x+1) + 6 sqrt(4x+1)  + 9

Then simplify that to :

2x-6 =  6 sqrt(4x-1)  ?

This is what I did.
(6x+4)=(4x+1)+6sqrt(4x+1)+9
(6x+4)=(4x+10 + 6sqrt(4×+1))
2x+4=10 + 6sqrt(4x+1)
2x-6=6sqrt(4x+1)
4x+36=36(4x+1)
4x+36=144x+36
36=140x+36
0=140x
0=x

The problem is here:

2x-6=6sqrt(4x+1)
4x+36=36(4x+1)

The right hand side you did is correct.  For the left hand side, you need to square the whole piece.

In other words,   (2x-6)^2     then use FOIL .

Hope that helps

It's still like a bizarre square root answer, right?
