Finding an equation that passes through the points

Find an equation of a line that passes through (10,1) and (-6,9) please help

Slope of the straight line joining two points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2)  is m=  (y2-y1)/ (x2-x1)= (9-1)/(-6-10) = 8/(-16) =-1/2

 

Thus the equation of the st. line is y = (-1/2)x + c

 

since the line passes through (10,1), substituting in the above equation,  1 = (-1/2) (10) + c

thus, c= 6

so the equation is y= (-1/2) x  +6  

or 2y =-x + 12 or  x+2y = 12

Try y = mx + b

 

m = (9-1)/(-6-10) = -1/2

 

y = -x/2 + b

 

Using (10,1),

 

1 = -10/2 + b

b = 6

 

Final equation:

 

y = -x/2 + 6
