Applying SImple Math to Everyday Life Activities
Perimeter is the sum of twice the length and twice the length. Area is length times width.
First, find the length using the area.
Area = length * width
16x + 20 = (4x + 5) * length
(16x + 20) / (4x + 5) = length
We can easily factor out the area expression instead of using long division.
[4(4x + 5)] / (4x + 5) = length
The (4x + 5) cancel each other out.
4 = length
Perimeter = 2(length) + 2(width)
Perimeter = 2(length + width)
Perimeter = 2(4 + 4x + 5)
