C:  Tone is an author's attitude about his/her subject.  Attitude is conveyed in writing through the diction or specific word choices of the author.  An author would use certain diction to convey sarcasm, for example, but different word choice to convey a more serious tone such as in expository writing.

Diction can be thought of as the words an author chooses, usually within a certain style. 

Do any of the choices remind your of speech or quality of writing? If you are thinking along the lines of the atmosphere the author is creating, you would be correct.
