Phyllis invested 67000 a portion earning a simple interest rate of 4 percent per year and the rest earning a rate of 6 percent per year. After one year the total interest earned on these investments was 3480 dollars. How much money did she invest at each rate?

$67,000 SPLIT into two different investments; x amount at 4%per year, the rest (67,000-x) at 6% per year. 

The total year's earned simple interest is $3480.  You write this equation:

 

0.04x + 0.06(67000-x) = 3480.
