so you take the 9's and turn into 1/9 for both 9's?
and subtract, so how would you write that in √ ?  √3?
Thank you so much for your help
God Bless!

I think there is some confusion here.

a^m / a^n = a^(m-n); e.g., a/a^2 = 1/a = a^(1-2) = a^(-1)

So 9^(1/4)/9^(3/4) = 9^(1/4 - 3/4) = 9^(-2/4) = (9^(1/2))^(-1) = 1/sqrt(9) = 1/3.
