What's the area of the frame?

A square photo is surrounded by a square frame that's 2 inches wide on each side. If the diagonal of the photo is 12 inches, what's the area of the frame (in square inches)?

If the diagonal of the photo is 12 we have

s^2 +s^2= 12^2

s^2= 72

s= 6sqrt(2)

So the side of the frame is 6sqrt(2) +2*2

Area of frame is (6sqrt(2) +4)^2= 88+48sqrt(2)
