if x-2 is a factor 2 is a zero or root
plug 2 for x in the polynomial and see if it = 0
x^3 +2x^2 -5x -6
2^3 +2(2^2) -5(2) -6 = 8 +2(4) -10 -6 = 8+8 -16 = 16-16 = 0
so yes, x-2 is a factor
