the area of a rectangle is 99yd squared, and the length of the rectangle is 7 yd more then twice the width. find the demensions of the rectangle

Let x = width, then X+7 = length  the area is:

 

x(x+7) = 99

 

x² + 7x - 99 = 0  Solve using the Quadratic Formula

 

[-7 +/- sqrt(49 -4(1)(-99)]/2(1)

 

[-7 +/- sqrt(445)]/2

 

[-7 +/- 21.1] /2 =7.04=width, length = 14.04
