If y/9=-2 and we want to solve for y then we need to multiply both sides of the equation by 9.
y*9/9=-2*9 we know that 9/9 = 1
y then = -2*9 or y= -18

the idea on an expression like this is that you're trying to isolate the variable by itself. for this one you can do that by multiplying both sides by 9
y/9 = -2
y = -2 * 9
y = -18
