Lets start by opening up the parentheses. The first and third parentheses can be opened without any alteration to the terms inside. The second though has a negative sign outside of it. This means that the whole parenthese is being multiplied by -1. Because of this we need to distribute the negative to each term inside resulting in
-1(x2-4)=-1x2+4. Our end result from these operations is
-2x2+3-x2+4+x+5.
From here all we need to do is combine the like terms, so group the x2 terms together, the x's together and the constants. From this we get
-2x2-x2+x+3+4+5. And now we combine them to get
-3x2+x+12. And that's out answer. =]
Hope this helped.
