First you need to find the slope: (-1 - 0)/(0 - -3) = -1/3
a) Parallel lines have the same slope and if the line is passing through the origin (0, 0), then its y intercept is 0. The equation of the parallel line is y = -1/3x.
b) Perpendicular lines have slopes which are opposite reciprocals. Multiplied together you will get -1. The slope of the line that is perpendicular is 3/1 or 3. (-1/3)*(3/1) = -1. Your y intercept is 0 once again since it is passing through the origin. The equation is y = 3x.
