Solve the equation for X

 y-x      z-x

Answer 1

x ≠ y ≠ z

 

z(z - x) = y(y - x)      multiply both sides by LCD

z² - zx = y² - yx        distribute

yx - zx = y² - z²      

x(y - z) = (y + z)(y - z)

x = y + z 

 

Answer 2

x=(z²-y²)/(z-y) we know that  (z²-y²)=(z-y) (z+y) 

 

if z and y are different, we can simplify the latter expression and the solution would be:

x=(z+y) 

 

if z=y any x would obey this expression:

  z         y
----- = ------
y-x       z-x

 

and this time, we still have to avoid the case of x=z=y
