A network printer is a printer that is connected to a network. Normally, a printer is connected to one computer, which means that you have to use that computer, in order to print to that printer. However, every computer would then need its own local printer. Sharing a printer over a network allows multiple computers to share that printer, which is a more efficient use of resources (like money).
