To find the absolute value, or magnitude, of complex numbers, there is a simple formula:

 

|a + bi| = (a² + b²)^1/2

Answer 2

|a + bi| = (a² + b²)^1/2

 

Let's do the first one: |4 + 3i|

a = 4, b=3

 

(a² + b²)^1/2 = (4²+3²)^1/2

 

= (16+9)^1/2 = 25^1/2 = 5

 

For the 2nd problem, do it the same way with

a=2, b = -7
