Mark is 5 years older than his brother 5 years ago he was 2 times older than his brother how old is each now

Let M = Mark's age today

B = brother's age today

 

M = B + 5            Relationship of their ages today

M - 5 = 2(B - 5)   Relationship of their ages 5 years ago

 

Substitute the 1st equation into the 2nd equation.

B+5 - 5 = 2B -10

B = 10

M = 15
