Determine an equation of a line in point-slope form given the slope and a point on the line that is not the y-intercept

Which equation represents the line with a slope of 4 that passes through the point (– 5, – 3)?

[A] y + 3 = 4(x -5)
[B] y - 3 = 4(x -5)
[C] y - 3 = 4(x +5)
[D] y + 3 = 4(x + 5)

And Why.. Thanks

David B.

Consider each of the possible answers. If you substitute the values of x and y for the given point (x=-5, y=-3) into the equation, only one of them is a true statement, namely, [D] which becomes 0=0.
