How did they end up with this answer?

This is supposed to be a chemistry problem, but I'm just wondering about the math right now: (x is 'multiplied by')

.005 times one over 760 = 7 times 10 to the negative sixth power

.005 X 760  = 7x10^-6

How did they get that?

Hi Sarah!!

 

If you start by dividing 1 by 760, that equals 0.001315789.  Then multiply that by 0.005

 

0.00131579 x 0.005 = 0.000006579 or 6.58 times 10 to the negative sixth power.  That rounds to 7 times 10 to the negative sixth.
