Short story, 'Quality:' Both of the fine leather bootmakers were much involved in and proud of their work. Mr. Gessler's elder brother, when taking an order from a customer for boots to be made, would typically tell the customer that he will ask his 'brudder' how soon the boots could be ready.
The implication is that Mr. Gessler perhaps had more of a sense of how the business should be the most successful, while the younger brother was most concerned about his craftsmanship.
Good luck!
