One side of triangle is half the longest side. The third side is 8 feet less than the longest side. The perimeter is 72. Find all three sides.

0.5s represents the one side

s - 8 represents the third side

 

s + 0.5s + s - 8 = 72         combine

2.5s - 8 = 72                     add 8 to both sides

2.5s = 80                          divide both sides by 2.5

s = 32

 

The sides are 32, 16, and 24 feet.
