The sum of three consecutive integers is 24. What is the products of the squares of the integers?

First try to find 3 numbers in a row (consecutive) that add (sum) up to 24.  For example, 3 + 4 + 5 = 12.  You can do this with equations, but guess and check is probably quicker in this case.

 

Then square the numbers, and multiply the results together (product).  So with the numbers above:

 

3^2 = 9

4^2 = 16

5^2 = 25

 

9*16*25 = 3600

3x+3=24

3x=21

x=7

x+1=8

x+2=9

7, 8, and 9 are the numbers

or,...

24/3=8

8-1=7 and 8+1=9

7, 8, and 9 are the numbers

(7^2)*(8^2)*(9^2)=49*64*81=254,016 is the answer
