Ron and Brian bought shirts and hats at the same store. Ron bought 3 shirts and 1 hat for 29.50$. Brain bought 2 shirts and 2 hats for 27.00$. how much does each shirt cost?

Let s = shirt, h = hat, R = Ron, and B = Brian

 

R = 3s + h = 29.50

B = 2s + 2h = 27

 

We can use a few methods to solve for s or h, but lets use the subtraction method.  Multiple equation R by -2 and add it to equation B:

-6s -2h = -59

+

2s + 2h = 27

 

We get:

-4s = -32

 

Solve for s:

s=8

 

Each shirt costs $8.00.
