From the foundation of the large base on which it sits to the top of the torch the statue of liberty nation monument measures 305 feet. The base is 3 feet taller than the statue. Find the height of the base and the height of the statue

If the height = x then

the base = x+3

and the equation is the sum of the heigh and the base is equal to 305

therefore

x+x+3 = 305

2x +3 = 305

you can solve for x and will find that the base is indeed 3ft taller than the height.

Base = 154 , Height = 151
