Hi Jeriko;
6x -2y =14
The solution of the equation is that it must be placed in the format of y=mx+b
m=slope, which is also known as the change in y-values divided by the change in x-values.
b= y-intercept. This is the value of y when x=0
Therefore...
6x -2y =14
Let's subtract 6x from both sides...
-6x+6x-2y=14-6x
-2y=-6x+14
Let's divide both sides by -2 to completely isolate y...
-2y/-2=(-6x+14)/(-2)
y=3x-7
SOLVED!
Let's plug-in x=14
y=3(14)-7
y=42-7=35
Of course, you could have found the value of y without finding the solution of the original equation...
6x-2y=14, x=14
6(14)-2y=14
84-2y=14
Let's subtract 84 from both sides...
-84+84-2y=14-84
-2y=-70
Let's divide both sides by -2...
-2y/-2=-70/(-2)
y=35
