How do you solve a 4the grade algebra comparison problem?

At the zoo there were 3 times as many monkeys as Lions Tom counted a total of 24 monkeys and lions how many monkeys were there?

 Divide/ distribute  24 total , total numbers of monkeys and lion, by 4 ( 1+3).

 

    24 ÷ 4 = 6  unit count

 

    6 * 1 =  6   number of lions

    6 * 3 = 18  number of monkeys
