Anthony sold his used bike and accessories for $172. If he received 3 times as much money for the bike as he did for the accessories, find how much money he recieved for the bike.

Let X = the money for the accessories.

 

If he received 3 times as much money for the bike as he did for the accessories, what do you have to multiply X by?

 

Then add the two expressions and make them equal 172 and solve for X.
