Here is the solution yo your question:
Let us suppose that we have an even integer = x (it can be any 0, 2, 16, 40, ... )
The next even integer would be = x + 2
(since the difference between an even integer and its next even integer = 2. For example, difference between 6 and 8 = 2, difference between 26 and 28 = 2)
Therefore the sum of an even integer and the next even integer
= x + (x+2)
= 2.x + 2
= 2(x + 1)
You can plug in any even integer in place of x.
i.e. x can be = 0, 2, 12, 78, ...
Hence the answer = 2(x + 1)
