The speed of 2 trains?

Two trains going in opposite directions leave at the same time. train B travels 20mph faster than train A. In 8 hours the trains are 880 miles apart. what is the speed of Train A and train B?

Let the velocities be -v and v +20. The relative speed of one with respect to the other is v + 20 - (-v) =

2v + 20

The total time that it takes the two trains to meet = 880/(2v +20) = 8

880 = 16 v + 160           v = 45       v + 20 = 65

Answer: A = 45 mph, B = 65 mph
