2/x-3 - 4/x+3 = 8/x^2 - 9

 

2(x+3) - 4(x-3) = 8                ( Multiply throughout by x^2 - 9 which is (x=3)(x-3) )

 

2x + 6 - 4x + 12 = 8

 

-2x = 8 - 18

 

-2x = -10

 

x = 5

2/(x-3)-4/(x+3)=8/(x^2-9)

x^2-9=(x+3)(x-3)

multiply both sides by (x-3)(x+3)

2(x+3)-4(x-3)=8

2x+6-4x+12=8

-2x+18=8

-2x=8-18

-2x=-10

x=-10/-2

x=5

Check your work by replacing x by 5 in the original equation, which I did.
