Let the length of smaller piece be 'x' inch, the bigger one will be '5x' inch
 
x + 5x = 234
6x = 234
x = 39
 
the smaller is 39 inch long and bigger is 195 inch long

You just have to multiply 39 by 5 or you can subtract 39 from 234, you get 195

In the very first line i said, the bigger or longer one will be '5x' inch
So 5x = 5 * 39 = 195
